Men's Skin Care For Men Over 50

This same research reveals that 1 in every 41 men will be diagnosed with melanoma in their lifetime! Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer! Untreated melanoma, while 100% curable if found early enough, can cause cancer to spread to other areas of the body. When this happens, the cancer becomes harder to treat and can be fatal in some situations. Guys, do I have your attention yet?

In an article that I read recently from the Skin Cancer Foundation, I learned that melanoma is not the most common of skin cancers but it does cause the most deaths related to skin cancers. To briefly educate you on this type of skin cancer, allow me to mention a few points of interest before we move on to men's skin care for men over 50. First of all, melanoma is a cancer that originates in skin cells that produce the pigment of our skin. Second, most melanomas are colored either black or brown, but some can be pink, reddish, purple, blue or white. Third, the risk factors include sun exposure, the number of moles on the skin, skin type and family history.

The use of sunscreen for all outdoor activities, whether for work or play, is vital to protecting your skin. Skin care specialists recommend using a sunscreen with at least a 15 SPF rating, applying it at least 20 to 30 minutes before going out into the sun and reapplying about every two hours while outdoors.

For most men, skin care consists of a quick face washing and daily or every other day shaving routines, with not much thought to what the skin looks like or feels like. For many men, a simple daily application of a good quality moisturizing lotion would improve the condition of their skin from dry, scaly and itchy to smoother and less wrinkled. Others may consider changing the cleansers they are using on their faces to include one that is less harsh. Most skin specialists will tell you that you should not use the same product on your face that you use on the rest of your body to clean it. The soaps in body cleaners are too hard on the more sensitive facial tissues. Shaving is a major skin irritant and using pre-shave and post-shave products will lessen the damage done by this regular grooming regimen.

Guys, here is the bottom line: men's skin care and the protection and improvements gained from it doesn't have to be involved and costly. You don't have to use "girly" perfumed products either. There are products being produced every day formulated especially for men and, if you're over 50, you will benefit more greatly than the younger guys from the use of them.
